DSM Criteria

Substance/Medication-induced psychotic disorder is diagnosed if there is a presence of psychotic features with symptoms occurring soon after the intoxication or withdrawal of a substance, or soon after exposure to a medication. The substance must have the potential to produce or hallucinations that result in clinically significant impairment.

Etiology

The interplay between a genetic , mental health status, and substance-abuse leads to the onset of this disorder.

Treatment

Treatment plans typically include pharmacological intervention and medications, as well as cognitive-behavioral or some form of interpersonal therapy.
